Aladdin Directors Confirm Popular Fan Theory About Genie
So, that’s an urban legend that is actually through.
And with the recent confirmation of both a Harry Potter and Frozen storyline hypothesis by the filmmakers, comes another from the Disney animation Aladdin.
Speaking of Robin Williams, there’s another Aladdin fan theory out there that’s less dirty, but still intriguing and worth verifying.
According to Clements, that angle was part of the initial plan for the film, along with the sequence in which the peddler would have revealed himself as the magical Genie. But originally, he confirms, “that was the whole intention”. Thanks to /Film reader Ryan for the tip!
Musker claimed he hadn’t “even heard” this particular one.
“We kept it Baghdad in our first treatment, and then the Gulf War happened-the first Gulf War”.
One bit of conjecture, though, was completely discredited, as Musker explained: “We never thought [the movie] was postapocalyptic, futuristic, or in a few other time”.
They did however, debunk myths that Aladdin was a post-apocalytpic world, and the whole “take off your clothes” thing. They gave him a little plastic lamp, and I overheard him say to one of his friends, ‘I get to keep this because I’m Aladdin’s son.’ Knocked me on the floor.
Based on the tale from “1001 Arabian Nights”, the musical tells the familiar story of Aladdin, a street urchin who meets and falls in love with Princess Jasmine. The shooting star, we were thinking, is Pegasus. Even more rare an occurrence is when one turns out to be correct, but according to the guys who made the film, there’s one long-standing theory about Disney’s Aladdin that is actually spot on.
Clements then went on to explain that this particular theory was really true with two supporting reasons.
