Neymar’s dad confirms Manchester United tried to buy him for £130m
There was much talk about Man United making a move for Neymar late in the summer transfer window. “Yes, Santos came with an accusation against a business I have, against Neymar and against Barcelona”, said Neymar Sr., who guides the Brazil captain’s career.
Globoesporte reported on Thursday that the Brazilian club’s President Modesto Roma had demanded his side’s former forward to be slapped with a six-month suspension for acting in “bad faith” during negotiations with La Blaugrana.
Neymar’s father told Brazilian media on Wednesday that “Santos is going against its idol”.
“Despite being an idol, we denounce Neymar because there are things in which we disagree”.
Santos claims it was never told about a 2011 payment of 10 million euros ($11.4 million) made by Barcelona to the company owned by Neymar’s father to guarantee the rights to sign the talented youngster. “It seems Santos is looking for more money”.
Speaking to Fox Brasil and quoted by Catalan daily Sport, the player’s father said: “Barcelona received an offer from Manchester United, but the club said that they didn’t want to sell”. As of yet, it is unknown if Federation Internationale de Football Association plans to take action against Neymar for the deal, and it will take a few time given the fact that Federation Internationale de Football Association is also under intense scrutiny.
Brazil won one of its opening two qualifiers, with matches against Argentina and Peru to follow in November.
