Wests Tigers’ Matthew Lodge charged in United States over alleged stalking and assault
Matthew Lodge, 20, a forward for the Sydney-based Wests Tigers, made the remarks as he chased the two German tourists into the building on West End Ave.at 4 a.m. Friday, cops said.
DISGRACED NRL player Matthew Lodge was found cowering in the bedroom closet of the New York apartment he allegedly barged into after stalking frightened women into the home, punching the man who lived there and then pegging a bottle of wine at police.
At the time, he was stood down from training for one week during the preseason and was not allowed to play in the Auckland Nines and the Tigers’ final trial against Parramatta. “My husband’s on a plane to New York”, a clearly distraught Ms Lodge said.
The Tigers released a statement late on Sunday night, saying the club had ripped up Lodge’s contract and that they wouldn’t tolerate “this type of behaviour”.
He said the club would continue to offer “welfare and counselling options” to Lodge.
The rowdy rugby player was forced to step down from the Wests Tigers last month as the league investigated his August arrest on stalking and domestic violence charges, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
New York police allege that Lodge followed the women to a unit block on Friday night, telling them: “This is the night that you die”.
Matthew Lodge’s contract with the Wests Tigers has been torn up.
The mother of troubled NRL player Matthew Lodge has admitted she is “concerned for his welfare” following the revelation of his arrest in America over the weekend.

Additionally, he was fined $10,000 after being involved in an altercation outside a Kings Cross club in January.
In 2014, he was suspended for writing the word c*** on his wrist strapping while playing for NSW in an Under-20s fixture.
