Denver Nuggets 98, Sacramento Kings 76
One DUI arrest in a year is bad enough, but now he’s had two in about half a year.
Nelson joining the Nuggets in January via trade from Boston, scored 9.6 points and 3.7 assists per game in Denver. Lawson has been displaying signs of the role as the point guard of the future for Denver but that may now be in jeopardy.
Of course the Nuggets already have Ty Lawson, and they were lucky enough to have high school-to-China prospect Emmanuel Mudiay drop in their laps at the seventh pick.
The Denver Nuggets are a team in limbo, perhaps the National Basteball Association team that is least relevant in league discussions.
Lawson, 27, has been with the Denver National Basteball Association club since 2009, after being drafted out of North Carolina by the Minnesota Timberwolves, who traded him to the Nuggets on draft night.
The other team is the Sacramento Kings, despite having Rajon Rondo in the line-up, George Karl might still want to have his former point guard and do what he does best. Nelson at this point in his career is best suited as a backup point guard, so if Lawson were to get traded (Bleacher Report believes he will) then Mudiay would likely step right in as the starter.
Nelson has signed a three-year, $13.5 million deal, according to an National Basteball Association source, bringing him back to Denver, which traded for the veteran midway through last season.
The officer noted that Lawson’s speech was slurred, his “breath had a strong odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage, balance was swaying/stumbling, eyes were bloodshot/watery”. They didn’t have to take Mudiay, especially with Justise Winslow still on the board, they just decided to. The Dallas Mavericks reportedly entertained the idea of acquiring Lawson, and the Cleveland Cavaliers have reportedly expressed interest in trading for Crawford, though neither player was moved.
Denver is not going to make a playoff run, much less a championship one. The Nuggets can get something in return for him, and they should do that now to maximize the gain as they move forward.
