Man Shot, Killed in Winona Apartment
Investigators believe a man fatally shot at a Winona apartment was targeted by two assailants.
According to the Winona Police Department, just after 1 p.m. officers responded to a call of a shooting at an apartment building in the 1200 block of Gilmore Avenue.
The 31-year-old victim was declared dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel from a gunshot to the abdomen, police added.
The suspects left the apartment and got into a dark-grey, four door vehicle, driving westbound on Gilmore Avenue. The name of the victim is now being withheld pending the notification of his relatives.
“The first suspect is described as an African American male, lighter-skinned, around 5’9” and 200 pounds. At a few point, the witnesses say one of the two men shot the victim. “The second was described as a black male, 5’5”, about 150 pounds with short hair.
“This definitely wasn’t random”, Bostrack said. They say the victim was likely targeted.
Winona police continue to investigate the incident, and have been in contact with the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
We will have additional information on this shooting as it becomes available.
