Obama’s Nuclear Deal With Iran Leaves Persecuted American Pastor in
Would Iran feel generous in a new era of rapprochement?
Depending on whom you speak with the P+1 deal is either an historic accord or a deeply unsafe agreement that, if green lighted, will pave Iran’s path to the bomb.
There was no sign today that Iran meant to release any of them.
Rep. Dave Trott, R-Birmingham, who sits on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, called the agreement a “bad deal” for America, in part because the concessions will achieve “little more than a slowdown” in Iran’s nuclear program.
“The governments of the United States and Iran have worked together to reach this agreement”. “While Amir himself has said that he should not be part of any nuclear deal, his immediate release would demonstrate a strong gesture of good faith to the worldwide community”.
All of the Americans have suffered mistreatment including torture, malnourishment, and lack of medical care.
In August 2011, Hekmati was arrested in Iran on allegations that he was a spy.
Idaho pastor Abedini was convicted in January 2013 of establishing Christian house churches while in the country to set up a government-sanctioned orphanage. The Associated Press has reported that Levinson may be being held in Iran, Afghanistan or Pakistan. He is the longest-held US hostage in history.
“This is something that we continue push hard on irrespective of the nuclear deal”, President Barack Obama said last month at a news conference.
Christian pastor Saeed Abedini, 34, has been in Iranian custody since September 2012. Betrayed by the President’s promises to help free her husband, Naghmeh Abedini appeals to Congress for help. “They are husbands, fathers, sons, and brothers”.
“My children have desperately missed the loving embrace of their father for the last three years of their lives”.
Kildee noted the irony that both Hekmati and Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian are held on charges that include “cooperating with hostile governments” at the same time that Iranian officials were negotiating across the table from US officials.
Former Marine, Amir Hekmati, is also jailed in Iran and the Hekmati’s family also released a statement after the nuclear deal was announced.
“Amir is an innocent man who traveled to Iran to visit family, yet there is no denying that his imprisonment has been prolonged pending an outcome in these negotiations”, the statement said.
The United States may have just lost its best leverage to secure the release of four citizens held in Iran.
“We have four prisoners over there…they shouldn’t be over there!” We pray Amir does not reach this milestone. “I have come all this way because our family needs answers”.
Their congressman, Rep. Dan Kildee (D-Mich.), told CNN “Iran has to understand that for the world, the American people and the USA Congress to fully consider the merits of this agreement, they need to take a step towards the global community”.
Kildee said he spoke with Hekmati’s family Tuesday morning.
Kildee has been a voice for the Hekmati family in many ways over the years.
Hekmati’s sister, Sarah, and her husband, Ramy Kurdi, traveled to Vienna, where the nuclear negotiations were being held, to make sure Amir Hekmati’s case wasn’t forgotten. Family members say he was making the trip to visit his grandmother in Tehran after getting permission from the Iranian Interests Section of the Pakistani Embassy in Washington, D.C. My family is not political.
“The outcome of the nuclear deal does not change Jason’s cruel and illegal imprisonment for the past 356 days”.
“Jason is completely innocent of all charges and it is inhumane for him to still be held behind bars after nearly a year”, Ali Rezaian said in a statement.
The delegation’s House Republicans were more skeptical of the proposed agreement, while Democrats said they would carefully consider the agreement.
