McDavid nets first goal, Oilers fall to Dallas
Dallas Stars center Jason Spezza (90) celebrates his goal with teammates Jason Demers (4) and Colton Sceviour during the first period of an NHL hockey game against the Edmonton Oilers Tuesday, October 13, 2015, in Dallas.
Spezza’s second tally came with 4:30 remaining in regulation, breaking a 2-2 tie. The value on the road team here is great and I think we see Edmonton’s first win of the season and McDavid’s first National Hockey League goal as the Oilers get two big points on the road. The Capitals said on Twitter about 35 minutes before the game that the Russian star would not play. “It was a momentum builder for us, killing off those penalties and take it the other way”. That’s the hockey game.
The Stars had 52 shots, their most since February 3, 1990, in a 7-6 loss to Philadelphia. Through three games this year, the club has averaged 36 shots on net and 3.33 goals per game.
So McLellan pulled McDavid aside after the Oilers’ loss at the Dallas Stars, and gave him a simple message: You have an equal part in every loss and every win for this team. But with 4:02 left and a face-off looming in the offensive zone, Hitchcock sent out the “STL Line” of Schwartz, Lehtera and Tarasenko, who were magical at times the past year. Dallas is a really good team, I guess, but they still have to prove it to everyone, including themselves. “That was unacceptable for what we’ve gone through and tried to play defensively”, Ruff said.
Heralded rookie Connor McDavid scored his first goal of the season Tuesday night, but the pressure will be on McDavid all season long.
“I think this is the first step toward a return to the Oilers’ glory years”, said Brown, 37. “You get your coach”, he said. But MSG just completed a billion dollar renovation, becoming one of the NHL’s nicest arenas. He saw 20:17 in ice time, his most so far this season.
The hype is real for Edmonton Oilers fans when it comes to Connor McDavid. But Elliott finished with 24 saves for his sixth straight win over Edmonton, and the Blues improved to 2-1 on their season-long, six-game road trip, which will continue Friday in Vancouver.
After a troublesome third period against Colorado in their previous game, Dallas rebounded on both ends of the ice.
Spezza opened the scoring late in the first period by sneaking a shot between Nilsson’s pad and the left post on a shot with nearly no angle along the boards not far from the goal line. And if he leads the Stars in scoring with three goals among four points, then maybe last season’s 62 points was more fluke than trend. He uses the word “normal” a lot, in the sense that he just wants to be one of the guys in the room and in the sense that he’s over these Special Events at the start of his career.
The only dark spot on the night was an injury to Patrick Eaves.
