VW Prices US-Bound 2016 Passat From $22440
The company will be offering an R-Line version of the Passat in the United States market for the first time, featuring unique rocker panels, a stylized front bumper with contrasting black accents, a modified rear diffuser and 19-inch aluminum wheels. About a month after being revealed at an event in New York, the 2016 Passat is now becoming available from $22,440 (recommended retail price without destination charge). According to VW, this represents a $1,315 value over the old auto.
The base S model comes with 16-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, a rearview camera and automatic post-collision braking, which means that if the vehicle senses you’re in an accident, it holds the brakes to prevent any further drama.
Just like most of the Passat lineup, the S model receives a 1.8-liter turbo-four engine with 170 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. The Lighting Package is slightly cheaper at $1,095, but you still have to pay $775 extra for the R-Line Comfort package.
SE models begin at $27,100, or the same price as the 2015 model. It comes standard with an upgraded infotainment system and leatherette seats that are heated and power-operated up front. This model features 6.3-inch color display, adaptive cruise control, autonomous braking with front assist, SiriusXM satellite radio, forward collision warning, and tilt-and-slide power sunroof.
SE Technology Package ($29,230): A tech package on the SE adds a blind spot warning system, keyless access and push-button start, navigation, rain-sensing wipers and heated rear seats.
The 2016 Volkswagen Passat SEL model costs $31,315 and includes a Fender Premium audio system, rear-seat pass-through, power front seats that have memory settings for the driver’s seat, and Vienna leather seat covers.
King of the 2016 Volkswagen Passat kingdom is the V6 SEL Premium, which adds stainless steel exhaust tips and shift paddles along with VW’s 280-hp 3.6-liter V-6 engine.
Stepping up to the SEL tops the $30,000 threshold.
Volkswagen did not even mention the 2.0 TDI diesel version of the Passat in Monday’s announcement. The total price for the V6 SEL Premium is a heady $37,655.
