Barnes & Noble Unveils First Waterproof NOOK; Now Available At $129.99
The NOOK Digital business offers a lineup of popular NOOK tablets and eReaders and an expansive collection of digital reading and entertainment content through the NOOK Store.
It’s been two years since Barnes & Noble announced a new Nook GlowLight.
The E Ink display itself is 300 dpi, a drastic improvement over the original GlowLight, and has enhanced contrast for more comfortable reading in any lighting. Speaking of which, the 6-inch screen boasts twice as many pixels as its predecessor along with a built-in ambient light. It’s just barely heavier than the previous plastic model at 6.9 ounces, but it feels infinitely better in your hands.
You can’t keep a good e-reader manufacturer down. Barnes & Noble undertakes no obligation to publicly update or revise any forward-looking statements, whether as a result of new information, future events or otherwise after the date of this communication. Barnes & Noble asked for feedback from its customers and they said they wanted a more durable device that they could use “at the beach, in the bathtub or alongside the pool without worry”.
I was told that you get 2.6GB of free space, which should allow you to store thousands of e-books. And the processor gets a slight bump up, though company reps wouldn’t say exactly what chip powered the device. Barnes & Noble has been quiet on that front for some time now, as rivals Amazon and Kobo have continued their game of oneupmanship, but the once the once-ubiquitous bookseller is set to make a splash yet again with a brand new Nook, the company’s first to feature a waterproof and dustproof build.
Barnes & Noble gave the GlowLight Plus a premium build – an aluminum body with a white border and a bronze-colored back that gives it a distinct look.
The Nook GlowLight Plus is available now for $129.99 and comes with free in-store support for life.
