Family’s Dog Shot and Killed by Police Officer in Florida City
An online petition is calling for the termination of a Florida City police officer who shot and killed a dog Tuesday morning after it ran out the front door of a home when the officer knocked on the door.
The Miami Herald reports Sage Raphael says the door open was open as she got ready to take Duchess to the veterinarian.
A Florida family recorded surveillance footage of their dog being shot by a police officer after he came knocking on their door for a routine house check. Here’s the surveillance video. He said the department offered its sympathy to the Palacios family.
The Palacios family fosters and rescues dogs in the area and said it was barbaric how the officer killed their rescue dog.
Ken Armenteros, a Florida City police spokesperson, said the ordeal began at 7 a.m. after a patrolling detective, whom police did not identify, noticed a vehicle with an open door parked in the driveway.
“Before I could even do anything, the officer had his gun out and shot her three times in the head”, she said.
‘There was no reason for him to think she was aggressive in any way’.
Officer Terry has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
“She was excited. Someone’s at the door”. “She was curious. She wasn’t barking (and) she wasn’t growling”. “We don’t have the luxury of hindsight”, he told. ‘We have to use the information that is given to us in a split second.
“He needs to take responsibility for his actions”, Raphael told. “If he didn’t want to be in this position, he should have never pulled that gun and made that first move”.
