‘Scream’: Riley Dies – Season 1 Episode 3 Recap
Emma knows things she shouldn’t on tonight’s all new episode of “Scream” and for some reason she didn’t want to tell anyone about her late night conversation with the killer.
Episode 3 kicks off with a flashback to the night of the murders.
The episode begins with someone running across an open field. The guy told the girl that somebody “got what he deserved”.
They leave and Emma runs into Will, who offers her an iPod as a peace offering. This serial killer is clearly taking his notes on how to be a modern-day villain from Pretty Little Liars’ big bad “A”, considering his dependency on technological communication. But unfortunately a fall causes him to face the murderer. And Noah’s rehashing it to Piper Shay.
“Scream” stars Willa Fitzgerald as “Emma”, Bex Taylor-Klaus as “Audrey”, Carlson Young as “Brooke”, Amadeus Serafini as “Kieran”, John Karna as “Noah”, Connor Weil as “Will”, Tracy Middendorf as “Maggie” and Jason Wiles as “Sheriff Hudson”.
Emma finds out that her mother, Maggie, is connected to the Brandon James murders. Needless to say, this doesn’t help ease her worries after the unknown caller stalking her revealed that she can’t trust her mom.
Elsewhere in Lakewood, the secrets are building.
Brooke made a decision to have a bit of cybersex with Mr. Branson. But it turns out that Jake didn’t text Tyler like he said he would and Will lied about where the money really was. Jake is obviously not pleased. She’s called outside by a text.
Emma’s involvement in this matter is not linked to just her mother. Kieran reveals that his dad has the old Brandon James case files at the house, and Emma asks to flip through. Things are being set in motion in “Wanna Play A Game?”
Thus Emma was an unwilling participant in her friend’s murder. But that’s not an option.
Jake sneaks up on Brooke who is waiting for someone else.
The killer’s new playmates?
Riley (Brianne Tju) died!
Poor, poor Riley. I was really starting to like her but let’s start at the beginning. The girls plan to catch Tyler by getting him to meet Riley in the park. While watching the premiere just two short weeks ago, I never thought that the show would actually succeed in making me care about its characters. Instead Jake makes one more threat to Will, warning him to hand over the money.
Emma, her mom and the police get back to the police station when Brooke calls.
Riley comes back to the police station and is so upset. The police watch as a man gets out of the auto and approaches their staged officer. When the police get him on the ground they find a photo of Brandon James’ mask. Once they discovered it wasn’t Tyler, the man said he was paid to deliver a message, which said, “nice try”. She pretends there is nothing else but Audrey notices some kind of cue that she does when she’s not telling the whole truth.
Brooke, of course, thinks she’s meeting Mr. Branson. Emma hears that Brooke is safe, but now Riley’s gone.
Viewers expected Rachel, played by Sosie Bacon, to get killed based on the trailer that was released last week. She had the potential to be someone great, but her time was cut much too short. Emma tells her to stay put, and texts back the stalker: “Do NOT hurt Brooke”.
Unfortunately Riley does not listen to Emma.
The caller texted Emma again after the cops failed to capture “Tyler” and he gave her another chance to play. They find Riley’s body. She wants answers but her mother refuses to give them to her. Noah guides a blindfolded Riley into the place he works at. With some quick thinking she hops on a ladder up to the roof of the building, but the killer is right behind her. As she clings to the ladder, he plunges the knife into her back a couple of times. Thus Riley gets a text for help from the very dead Tyler. Once she got there, she was greeted by the killer who chased her down an alley and up a fire escape.
