Detectives: 3 Found Dead In Calaveras County Were Trespassing
Two brothers have been arrested in connection with the shotgun killing of three men who were allegedly trying to steal from a Calaveras County marijuana patch. When Barrett showed up, detectives say he shot all three with a shotgun along South Rail Road Flat Road.
Grammer called Barrett and asked him to come to the property.
The property owner, identified as Leon Michael Grammer, allegedly fired at the trespassers after he spotted them.
Upon arrival, deputies found three Caucasian men shot to death – two lying on a dirt roadway, and the other lying off the roadway. None of the deceased victims have been named yet due to next of kin notification issues.
Grammer and Barrett were arrested after being interviewed by detectives.
Grammer was booked on charges of accessory and conspiracy.
Sheriff’s deputies discovered the bodies Tuesday morning after getting called to the property near the town of Railroad Flat by someone reporting the triple shooting, said Sgt. Anthony Eberhardt a spokesman with the county’s sheriff’s office.
Barrett is being held on $2,500,000 bail, while Grammer on $30,000. As a former resident of precisely the same area of Calaveras County, this reporter will offer that this is not the first time this has happened on this road. Despite an exhaustive search, no records have been found for Robert Cunningham’s homicidal episode so far back, but the memory is refreshed by yesterdays occurrence.
