Lumia devices for Windows 10 update, starts rolling December
Microsoft Surface division’s vice president Panos Panay took to the stage to introduce the new devices.
Like the other models from the series, the Surface Pro 4 also comes with an attachable Type Cover keyboard that instantly converts the tablet into a practical laptop.
Windows 10 is available on PCs and tablets now, and while Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL ship with Windows 10 for phones, broad availability of Windows 10 on other devices, including mobile phones, will begin rolling out in December. Not long ago, a Facebook user had inquired Microsoft about the Windows 10 update for the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL.
The dust is starting to settle after yesterday’s Microsoft event, and three new Lumia smartphones were announced.
Specifically, Windows Phone posted a 3.6 percent market share increase over the same period of the previous year in Germany where it grew to 10.5 percent.
Powered by Windows 10, the newly launched Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL are tipped land in the store shelves by November, yuletide season. Microsoft also added that the devices that are running on the Lumia Denim OS (version 8.1 or higher) are eligible for the new OS.
The 32 GB Lumia 950, priced at $549, features a 5.2-inch Quad HD display, while the 32 GB, $649 Lumia 950 XL has a 5.7 Quad HD display that’s “large enough to be productive, yet mobile enough to meet your daily phone needs”, according to Microsoft.
To the eye, the laptop closely resembles Apple’s MacBook Pro, and Microsoft has made it clear it is directly challenging Apple. It runs on 6th-generation Intel Core processor and has 16GB of RAM, 1TB storage packs a G5 chipset, reportedly designed by Microsoft. The device features a 13.5-inch PixelSense display that can be easily detached from the keyboard.
The company also says the new laptop is twice as fast as Apple’s top of the range laptop, and that the Surface Book boasts 12 hours continuous battery life. The laptop will be available for pre-ordering tomorrow.
