Tracy Morgan’s ‘SNL’ monologue turns into a ’30 Rock’ reunion
Morgan was back to form, maybe better than ever, but he also had a little help from his friends. “Does he have 100 percent mental capacity?'” the 49-year-old shared with the audience.
Morgan started his opening monologue by making light of the six-car pileup in New Jersey that put him in intensive care a year ago, pretending to have problems with his speech.
Morgan revealed how, during his recuperation, he had decided that he will re-enter the TV industry through a place he had called home for years, the Saturday Night Live.
Senator Bernie Sanders loved Larry David’s impersonation so much, he’d like to invite the comedian to join him on the campaign trail.
Saturday was, in fact, a celebration of Tracy Morgan, nearly by way of celebrating those who were part of his greatest triumphs – notably Fey, who brought back Liz Lemon in a amusing “30 Rock” skit embedded within Morgan’s opening remarks. “When this happened, I knew they would all be there to support me”.
Morgan found the love and support he received during his SNL comeback “electric” as returned to host the comedy sketch show on Saturday.
Stepping onto the stage of NBC’s Studio 8H, Morgan was quick to clear the air: “People are wondering, ‘Can he speak?” “The truth is, I never did”. The crowd went nuts when he was joined by his former co-stars, Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Jane Krakowski and Jack McBrayer.
Morgan suffered a traumatic brain injury, a broken leg, broken nose and broken ribs when the limo-bus in which he was riding was hit by a Wal-Mart tractor-trailer. He appeared as Brian Fellows, one of his classic SNL characters, in a short sketch with a beaver and giraffe handler. “I might actually be a few points higher now”, he joked.
“I’m hungry, but I’m good, and if you don’t mind, I’m going to dial it right up to a ten”.
Later in the show, Tracy appeared alongside musical guest Demi Lovato, who played an alien opposite Tracy’s promiscuous astronaut.
