‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 12 Spoilers: Amelia’s Heartbreaking Reaction To Penny
Several moments tipped the scale far above a 10, but Grey’s Anatomy has a way of bringing everyone back down to Earth after their emotions get the better of them. On second thought, maybe “happy” isn’t exactly the right descriptor for this installment, but it was certainly an eventful one. How long can Meredith keep her composure before she explodes? On last week’s episode, “Old Time Rock and Roll”, Maggie, Meredith, and Amelia are already on their way to spectacularly failing at throwing a dinner party. Still, everything is going as expected until Callie comes to the door with Penny, and the mood changes.
Meanwhile, Meredith has sequestered herself in the bathroom upstairs, dry-heaving and having flashbacks to the night Derek died.
Meredith walks Karev out and then runs into Penny in the house. On the episode called “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?”. But not before Meredith attacked Amelia, took a few shots with Alex (Justin Chambers), and then told Penny she’d see her at work. Which is all well and good until…
Meredith made the realization at the end of last week’s episode and for the most part of this week’s episode, she kept Penny’s true identity a secret.
Once Meredith discovered that Callie was dating Penny, the doctor who killed Derek, it was only a matter of time before the rest of the gang realized it, too.
“The forgotten dinner party, hosted by the Lady Chief Sisters, goes on, but an unexpected guest forces both Meredith and Arizona to question whether extending an invitation to Callie’s girlfriend was worth the drama”.
As we all found out last week, Callie’s new girlfriend is the woman partly responsible for Derek’s death. Meredith flips out telling her that she lost her husband and the father of her children and Amelia is the one falling apart? There’s talk of calling a board meeting and getting her fired, and Penny herself even offers to rematch. “Did he say anything to you?” “It was the worst night of my life”. R.I.P. Calliopenny? Maybe not, as Callie later tells Jackson that she’s not sure how to “shut off” her feelings for her new squeeze.
VIDEO: How well does the cast of Grey’s Anatomy know medical jargon? She was supposed to be cooking because Maggie had to go down to the hospital and as it turns out Meredith doesn’t know how to cook. Before she can make it back into the dining room to mingle with Penny, Arizona praises the wonders of the pretty, flawless Penny to April, who puts up with her only defense against Jackson. But the conversation ends with Amelia and Owen cuddling, so that’s something. Jo apologizes, and it takes a few tries, but eventually, Stephanie accepts, though she’s furious when Jo implies that Stephanie is more motivated to practice medicine because of her past. Plus, Jo paid the price for snitching on Stephanie and Maggie contracted a UTI after having hot sex with Andrew. She later went to Meredith’s room and was proposing how the board could still fire her even if her job had been a foregone position when Meredith yelled at her.
Furthermore, Penny’s presence had Meredith off balance.
In the episode titled “The Me Nobody Knows”, Meredith will find out that the new transfer resident Penny Blake (Samantha Sloyan) will be under her service.
We’ve got two weeks to wait before we get to see Penny’s first day, but the preview indicates that it’s going to go less than swimmingly.
