The Director General of Police T N Mohan, IPS read out the list of police personnel in the country who laid down their lives in service of the country from September 1, 2013 to August 31, 2014 followed by police parade in commemoration of the police martyrs.
Stating that peace is a must for development of the state, the chief minister said the government would deal firmly with terrorism, extremism, communalism and white-collar crimes.
A total of 108 Uttar Pradesh Police personnel, including a deputy SP, three inspectors and four sub-inspectors, have lost their lives while on duty in the past one year.
Floral tributes were also paid to police martyrs by the Dy CM, Ministers, senior police functionaries, senior citizens, retired police personnel and family members of martyr police personnel.
Inspector Manohar Gawale supervised the parade held at Naigaon police headquarters here in which 100 security personnel of Mumbai Police, railway police and SRPF took part. “Many police personnel have been sacrificing their lives while performing their duties in sensitive areas, like dealing with anti-social elements and Maoists in the Agency areas”, he said, adding that police personnel have been acquiring new skills by mastering new technologies and methods to improve upon investigation techniques. He asked police to be accessible to the poor and those from the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes and other weaker sections to solve their problems.
