Alexis Tsipras says he will not step down or call Greek election
The authorities selected a painful third bailout that permits the nation to keep away from the danger of Grexit and transfer ahead to revive progress, Tsipras stated throughout an interview with the Greek national broadcaster ERT, Xinhua reported.
“I am fully assuming my responsibilities, for mistakes and for oversights, and for the responsibility of signing a text that I do not believe in, but that I am obliged to implement”, Tsipras said.
The ball still rests in the Greek court on hauling the country from its devastating financial crisis; Alexis Tsipras will need to convince the opposition and members of his own party who may oppose the reforms.
He accused Greece’s creditors of a “vindictive stance” after his initiative to call a referendum on their initial offer on June 27.
Tsipras expressed confidence that regardless of the prevalence of the professional austerity recipe this time, Europe’s course just isn’t a a method street and it may change. For Greece there was never a Plan B, Tsipras underlined, arguing that a default and Grexit would have dramatic repercussions for Greek people. When Athens fullfills its end of the deal, the German parliament will hold a special session on Friday (17 July) on authorising its government to open new loan negotiations with Greece.
“In light of today’s agreed deal, and broad support from the political parties domestically, we think that risks of a Greek exit have reduced in the short term as the European Central Bank should remain supportive as long as prior actions are passed in Parliament by next Wednesday and talks are headed in the right direction”, Barclays analysts wrote in a note to clients on Monday.
