Indian Super League: NorthEast United Prolong Atletico de Kolkata’s Misery
NorthEast United FC are breathing easy after their first points in the Indian Super League but there will be hardly any time to savoir the dramatic win as Atletico de Kolkata come calling to the Assamese metropolis.
Following the win, NorthEast are now at the sixth spot, while Kolkata are at the fourth spot in league table. We now have a crucial game coming up next against the defending champions and we need to put in our best effort. While the hosts will be looking to make it two wins in a row, the defending champions, who have seven points from four matches, lost their last match away against FC Pune City and will be keen to return to winning ways against a team who they defeated twice last season. The referee, however, adjudged that the foul was just outside the box.
Velez scorched the grass with his blistering pace, catching the ATK defenders off guard, from the left flank. after a few bobbles in the box, the ball kindly fell for him, on the half volley, and the Argentinian expertly stroked it into the bottom corner, beyond a flailing Amrinder.
The second half has kicked off and it looks like it is the same eleven that started the match for both sides.
Lara and Hume were also guilty of missing sitters in the 49th and 74th minutes.
Rehenesh failed to latch on to Javi Lara’s shot from distance and Hume was around to pick up the pieces but the NorthEast custodian recovered to clear in time. In the 64th minute, Nato’s header struck the crossbar with NorthEast goalkeeper TP Reheneesh well beaten.
Cesar Farias introduced Sanju Pradhan and Nicolas Velez in an ambitious double substitution and it worked for the hosts. But when Reheneesh was tested again 10 minutes later by Hume, he proved equal to the task. The goal stunned Atletico de Kolkata and despite their attempts to claw their way back, NorthEast stood firm to run away winners in front of their home crowd.
