The key is out – the first- Harry Potter play is going to be a sequel that is charming.
Harry Potter And The Cursed Child is based on an original tale part-written by JK Rowling and will feature a grown-up Harry, who now works for the Ministry of Magic. Both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: “sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places”.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will focus on an adult Harry, now a busy worker at the Ministry of Magic, and his son Albus Severus. “The Eighth Story. 19 Years After”, the tagline reads.
“I’m confident that when audiences see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child they will understand why we chose to tell the story in this way”.
The newly released official synopsis of the play has ramped up those levels of expectation. The director is Tiffany, who helmed the critically lauded war play “Black Watch” and multiple Tony Award-winning musical “Once”.
Rowling’s seven Harry Potter novels have sold more than 450 million copies around the world and been made into eight successful films.
Sonia Friedman of Book of Morman is producing with Colin Calendar and the production will feature a cast of 30.
“Because it’s a play, it’s worth stressing that at this stage of the process it’s not our intention to have a high-tech show”. Viewers can choose to watch both on the same day (matinee and gala) or over two consecutive days. 30 actors will star in the production and casting will be announced at a later date.
