Baylor QB Seth Russell fractures bone in neck, set to see specialist
In his postgame press conference, head coach Art Briles said Russell strained his neck during a play against Iowa State, but that diagnosis has been downgraded. The break was revealed in post-game X rays and a Connecticut scan.
The school said there is no timetable for Russel’s recovery and he will see a specialist next week. Russell has already thrown for 1907 yards and 27 touchdowns. He’s a tough guy. Baylor took a commanding 35-7 lead into halftime, but Iowa State cut the lead to 35-20 midway through the fourth quarter.
Russell has had a fantastic season for the Bears.
Assuming Russell’s injury won’t be a day-to-day type thing, the Bears will have to turn to freshman Jarrett Stidham to keep the team in the College Football Playoff race.
The Bears have a bye next week before traveling to Kansas State for a Thursday night game on November 5.
Taking over as the full-time starter at Baylor in his junior season, Russell has been a touchdown-producing machine, throwing for 29 touchdowns in his first seven games of the season.
