Five people died and two suffered major injuries after a fiery crash tonight in Groveland.
Riverside County Sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man who police said was shot in an exchange of gunfire with California Highway Patrol officers during a traffic stop at about 2 a.m. on October 23, 2015, in Highgrove.
The crash happened about 6:30 p.m. on Highway 120 near Smith Station Road.
Both cars reportedly caught fire, even causing a fire to the hillside.
A male pedestrian was taken to Highland Hospital with major injuries Friday after being struck by a vehicle on the Gilman Street off-ramp from westbound Interstate 80.
“It’s one of the worst we’ve had in a while”, said Nick Norton, public information officer for the Sonora CHP office.
Two vehicles – a 2012 Mercedes registered in San Jose and the other a 2012 Nissan registered in Merced – crashed head on, causing a small fire on the side of the road, CHP said.
