India, Russian Federation move towards achieving $30 billion bilateral trade target
In 2014, bilateral trade amounted to $9.51 billion.
Areas including agriculture, pharmaceutical and infrastructure were identified by both sides to strengthen their economic engagement.
“EAM mentioned to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that the Government of India had chose to declassify the files pertaining to Netaji Subhash Chandra and in this context she sought the Russian cooperation if there were any files in Russia pertaining to Netaji which could be shared with us”, EAM spokesperson Vikas Swarup told media here.
The Indologists briefed her about their work including translations of the Ramayana and the Mahabharata as well as teachings of Indian languages.
In her remarks, Swaraj said hallmark of Indian literature and culture has been respect for all points of view.
India conveyed its message during External Affairs Minister (EAM) Sushma Swaraj meeting with her Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.
The talks are likely to focus on ways to expand cooperation in trade and investment, particularly in the energy sector including nuclear power.
The two sides also discussed situation in Syria and UN Security Council reforms. “India will be a helicopter superpower”. Swaraj was addressing a meeting of BRICS – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – during a three-day visit to Russia.
On his half, Lavrov stated he was hopeful that Swaraj’s go to will present impetus to India-Russia ties.
India, one of the largest energy consumers in the world, was keen to get the membership of the bloc as it will help it play a major role in the SCO energy club which was set up to create a unified energy market as well as to ensure cooperation among major oil and gas companies from the member nations.
