Jaden Schwartz Crashes Into Goal Post
Robby Fabbri is recovering from a concussion, and like Kevin Shattenkirk, who has missed the last four games, is close to returning. Here are a few news items surrounding the St. Louis Blues to get you caught up to speed.
The Blues’ first practice in three days stopped suddenly when Jaden Schwartz went down to the ice in pain.
St. Louis Blues were given a scare when left-winger Jaden Schwartz left practice and was taken to the hospital after colliding with the goal post on Friday.
The 24-year-old Schwartz, who is in his fifth season with the team, was performing an innocuous drill when he appeared to lose his edge while attempting to corral a puck.
“You know what, we’re not going to know until [Saturday] morning”, Hitchcock said about the severity of Schwartz’s injury.
“He shot the puck and then the puck bounced off”, said Brian Elliott, who saw the incident.
Following the injury, Schwartz was transported to the Washington University Orthopedic Center in St. Louis, where Dr. Matt Matava and Dr. Jeremy McCormick performed successful surgery on the ankle, the team announced Saturday. He has four assists in seven games.
“(It was a) pretty innocent thing”, Blues Head Coach Ken Hitchcock said after practice.
“We’re not going to know until tomorrow morning”, said Hitchcock. “I’ve been in it a long time, I’ve never seen that in my life, in a warmup drill, the guy goes down”. He was a first-round pick in the 2010 draft and for his career has 139 points in 214 regular-season games.
