Six Points: Browns vs. Rams
It is even faster inside the dome.
Three of Cleveland’s previous opponents rank in the bottom 10 in rushing offense, and only New York ranks in the top 10. Still, it will be hard to avoid the temptation to feed Gurley early and often against a run defense that is yielding a league-worst 149.8 yards per game.
As a lifelong Pittsburgher, I have seen three Steelers head coaches in my lifetime.
Big Danny: In a corner of the Browns’ locker room, Danny Shelton sat in front of his locker with media surrounding him and hanging on his every word. Inside, he’s a penetrator.
In a three-week span, Davis went from hotel valet to racecar driver.
As Week 7 beckons, one division team will likely fall to 2-5 after Seattle and San Francisco play Thursday night. Taking a deeper dive, the only AFC division Fisher’s Rams has a winning record against – we won’t count the North, as they’ve only played one game against that division since 2012 – is the AFC South. They need to love Josh McCown, and they must stop the Rams in the name of that love.
Rather, the more concerning matter is Cleveland’s 30th-ranked defense, which has become a tangled mess. We just have to make sure we’re walking that fine line between getting ourselves in the best play but also, I said it in the meetings when we were game planning: “‘Hey, just make sure simpler is better.’ Simpler is better this week just because of the environment we’re going to be in”.
First, the Rams are coming off their bye week, which means they had an extra week to pore over the tape and put together a solid game plan. As Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said, “He’s only going to get better”. The Browns, meanwhile, have the worst run defense in the league.
Will: We heard up and down this season that the run will be the Browns’ bread and butter. If anything, that setback has only given Gurley more motivation to prove the Rams weren’t wrong to pick him with the 10th overall selection. But that’s no matter to him. “I think it’s a team that can do it, but we still have to go out there and prove it on Sunday no matter what our team looks like on paper”.
Adding to the humiliation is the fact that Cleveland’s opponents don’t even possess risky rushing offenses.
“The main thing is you have to put that one behind you, as much as it hurts and it’s disappointing”, he said. “Obviously there’s still things we can do better and we constantly try to work on those things day-in, day-out”. “We’re just doing the same things”.
“It’s definitely coming along pretty well”, Gurley said.
The Rams had one of their longest injury reports of the season on Wednesday with a number of players sitting out. My eighth year going into my ninth year, I feel like I’ve got a lot of football left and (general manager) Ray Farmer saw it in me when he was at Kansas City and everybody knows I’m a team guy. Barnidge spent four season with the Carolina Panthers with 23 catches and just one touchdown in limited playing time. “Tavon did not practice with a little hamstring”. Rob didn’t practice with the knee. Alec Ogletree (ankle) remains on the active roster, and has also been declared out.
Rookie running back Todd Gurley will make his first home start when the St. Louis Rams come off a bye to face the Cleveland Browns in a Week 7 matchup between a pair of two-win teams. It appears to be an offense Nick Foles can thrive in. We have to be able to execute when it comes to defending the run.
The Browns rank ninth in the National Football League in passing yards per game (272.3), and the deep ball has been their primary weapon. Middle linebacker James Laurinatits has recorded 37 tackles.
“Every Sunday, our goal is to be the best defense on the field”.
Documents filed recently in U.S. District Court show the Bengals agreed to pay Ben-Gal cheerleaders a total of $255,000 to settle the 2014 lawsuit alleging that their time commitments for games, practices and promotional events netted them payment that was below minimum wage. “That’s a big difference there”. Of course, they seem to be held back by Jared Cook.
