Tech snaps FSU 28-game ACC win streak
Two ACC schools face off against one another on Saturday when the Florida State Seminoles travel to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Seminoles were only able to run a total of five offensive plays.
FSU took a sobering spill down the mountain Saturday night. The Seminoles must find a way to fix the deficiencies in a roster that is still more talented than most in the country.
Seminoles are 0-3-2 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Georgia Tech.
The Seminoles added a 27-yard Aguayo field goal after a 10-play drive that stalled at the Georgia Tech 10, which extended the lead to 13-3.
Georgia Tech will need to rebound quickly to extend its lengthy bowl streak alive and help Paul Johnson from suffering only his third losing season as a head coach. Watts-Jackson was a media sensation last week after he beat Michigan as time expired with a 38-yard return of a botched punt.
That would be a tall task even with a win over Georgia Tech, sure, but no other program is more familiar with “survive and advance” than Florida State.
ACC DOMINANCE: Florida State hasn’t lost an ACC game in more than three years.
The Yellow Jackets entered the season as a heavy favorite in the Coastal Division, but they’re seriously reeling after their fifth straight defeat. All of Tech’s losses have come to teams that are either undefeated or have just one loss.
Cook ran for 6 yards on the game’s first play. The Aggies are 5-1 and both teams are 2-1 in the SEC West. The victor of this game will still be right in the middle of the SEC hunt.
On a rainy day along the Brazos River, the Bears (7-0, 4-0 Big 12) were held under 60 points for the first time in six games.
The next nine games give the Jackets time to manicure their talents in preparation for those three big matches to close out the season. Coach Tom Herman has Houston rolling in his first season. Georgia Tech’s Lance Austin picked up the ball after the block and sprinted all the way to the end zone for the game-winning 78-yard touchdown. He has not been as effective with the rush, and last week he carried five times for a loss of 28 yards. Signs of struggle emerged early, when freshman defensive end Josh Sweat intercepted the ball on the Yellow Jacket’s first possession of the game. Defensive back Chris Milton has blocked two kicks this season and is the FBS’s active career leader with seven. Since 2013, the Yellow Jackets have blocked 13 kicks, the most in the nation during that span. That’s the only way to put it. Georgia Tech hadn’t stopped anyone all year not named Alcorn State. Georgia Tech finally scored thanks to two big plays by Thomas. “They’re very good, very good up front and very attacking-minded. We made a lot of mistakes, but we fought the whole game, came back and found a way”. “No. But it is what it is”.
“We needed to cover it”, coach Jimbo Fisher said.
“They’re going to try to run the ball God knows how many times”. Me and Adam (Gotsis) looked at each other and said, ‘Let’s get a few push on these guys, ‘ and just got our hands up and luckily it just hit my hand. “If everyone plays their keys and does what they have to do, we’ll be fine”. “I grabbed his little play sheet”, Aguayo recalled. “I mean, he’s as quick as you get”. Logano earned a spot in the third round of the Chase two weeks ago with his Charlotte win. LSU running back Leonard Fournette averages 3.05 yards after contact.
NO. 2 BAYLOR 45, IOWA STATE 27: Shock Linwood ran for 171 yards and a touchdown, caught a pass for another score and Baylor beat Iowa State for its FBS-best 20th consecutive home victory.
