Teen brothers arrested for running prostitution ring
KHQ reported that a few of the girls forced into sex work were as young as 14 and were subject to assault if they didn’t perform their duties, not to mention the fact that they often didn’t see the money they earned.
Spokane police have arrested two teenage brothers for running an underage prostitution ring. KHQ reports police tapped the phones in the juvenile detention center to follow up on a tip and overheard Thaishaun allegedly instructing his 15-year-old brother Dionte how to run a prostitution ring using his girlfriends, one of whom had a child with Thaishaun.
According to court documents, members of a Spokane police gang unit uncovered the operation while secretly listening to phone calls between 17-year-old Thaishaun Hunter and his 15-year-old brother, Dionte Hunter. Investigators say girls were ordered by the teens to advertise themselves on a prostitution website for $400 dates. Police say a 17-year-old, identified only as T.H. Court documents show the brothers talked in code, saying things like “Make them think they’re going to be reimbursed, even if they’re not”, and “Treat them right, that way they stay around, and make sure they do the calls”.Dionte was booked into the juvenile facility Thursday.
Nude pictures of underage girls were allegedly found on the younger brother’s cell phone.
No charges have been filed against the brothers’ mother so far, according to KREM.com.
Police allege a few of the profits went to the teen brothers’ mother and a few of the money was put on Thaishaun’s commissary account in the juvenile detention center. He is being held in the Spokane County Jail on $175,000 bond.
Both teens will be prosecuted as adults. Juvenile court struggled with declining jurisdiction over Dionte Hunter, a Rogers High School student who was considered a good athlete and described by teachers as remarkably intelligent.
