Darth Vader Statue Unveiled in Ukraine

Darth’s campain was boosted this week after his party, the Internet Party of Ukraine, sponsored the artistic transformation of a statue dedicated to Soviet leader Lenin into the Sith Lord.

This is not the first time Darth Vader appears as an element of Ukraine’s political landscape.

The Darth Vader likeness, created by renowned Odessa sculptor Alexander Milov, maintains the classic pose struck by Lenin in Soviet-era monuments, with the left hand clenched into a fist and bent at the elbow in front of the chest.

Anatoliy Boyko: “In these elections we have a whole group of Darth Vaders and Master Yoda”. This makeover is in light of Ukraine’s new legislation that prohibits any representation of the nation’s past as a communist country.

This Sunday, another Darth Vader will run for Odessa mayor again as the crisis-torn east European country holds local elections across Kiev-controlled lands.
