EPL 2015: Klopp denied first victory as Liverpool manager
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is still looking for his first win as Liverpool manager and he faces another tough game here against a good Southampton team. Take the draw here on a weekend of draws.
The England worldwide was signed from Chelsea in January 2013. With Daniel Sturridge still absent and Benteke on the bench there was no focus to the home attacks and slightly too much of Philippe Coutinho, James Milner and Lallana moving the ball around on the edge of the visitors’ area with no end result.
Jurgen Klopp once described the Liverpool manager’s job as the most hard in football.
Klopp then went on to dismiss suggestions that the nervy atmosphere at Anfield is holding his team back, before repeating that Liverpool need time to improve.
But with the home crowd preparing to celebrate Klopp’s first victory since succeeding Brendan Rodgers who was sacked earlier this month, Mane bundled in an equaliser at the far post.
Liverpool rarely looked like breaking the deadlock in Sunday’s tense Premier League encounter with Southampton prior to Benteke’s moment of inspiration, which came on 77 minutes. He was a little quieter after Mane levelled. “I prefer to play in another way but we defended well”.
Christian Benteke’s thumping header from James Milner’s cross. It was why the club spent £32.5million on him in the summer. Before the match, he stayed on his feet throughout “You’ll Never Walk Alone” just as the fans behind him were, though without a scarf in his hand.
Something has to be done to restore the fear factor at Anfield for visiting sides and the fact Southampton boss Ronald Koeman left the ground disappointed just illustrates that point.
The Senegal winger was then sent off late on after receiving two yellow cards in quick succession, the second of which was for a crunching challenge on Alberto Moreno. The problem is the other teams don’t wait for us. “It’s like it’s the last thing in your life and we have to calm this down”.
“We had our moments and played very good, but in the end, you have to score”.
“What I saw after the (Southampton) goal, maybe this is the problem, ” Klopp said.
Red and white have been one of the better attacking teams in the Premier League with scored 15 goals, five of them came from incredible Italian striker Graziano Pelle. “You don’t know when the next one is coming”. “We had nine or ten minutes to play, there was another chance, but there was no belief anymore in the eyes”, Klopp said.
“I wouldn’t say it is a negative mentality”.
Liverpool is still in bad position due to six injured players who will miss the Southampton clash.
“It was not our best performance but we had a good reaction after going down to a great goal from Christian Benteke”, he said.
