Officers in KY, TN looking for suspect accused of shooting, injuring cop
Police were searching Sunday for a man accused of shooting and injuring a Tennessee police officer, and then firing at state troopers in Kentucky, officials said. Nelson said Valencia was wearing a bulletproof vest, which saved his life.
This version corrects the agency where the injured police officer worked. He said the man inside exited and shot at troopers, who returned fire.
The Algood officer, Ahscari Valencia was shot during a traffic stop Saturday afternoon.
Floyd Cook is driving a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck with Kentucky tags and a blue University of Kentucky Wildcat license plate on the front.
The suspect in the case, Floyd Ray Cook, is wanted on felony fugitive warrants in Kentucky in addition to the shooting charges in Algood. The truck was an extended cab with a tool box in the bed and chrome running boards.
After the shooting in Algood, Cook allegedly traveled north to Cumberland County, Kentucky, where he also got into a shootout with officers. Authorities warned that Cook is considered armed and unsafe.
