Dolphins remain coy about Brent Grimes’ assignment vs. Texans
This might seem counter-intuitive when you consider that the Texans are better against the run (allowing 109 yards per game and an average of 3.8 yards per carry) than they are against the pass (allowing 239.8 yards per game and 12 touchdowns), but it also cuts down on risky plays.
The only top-20 unit in this game in terms of DVOA is Miami’s offense (19th), as Houston has settled as a bottom-five team.
While Philbin was the head coach, the Dolphins criminally underused Miller as their running back. “We have the right balance of impact players and lunch-pail workers”.
The NFL’s top receiver, DeAndre Hopkins (726 yards, 5 TDs), will be on display when the Houston Texans (2-4) meet the Miami Dolphins (2-3). He had four sacks last game and is the reigning AFC Defensive Player of the Week.
Meanwhile, the Dolphins were sharp during their first game with interim head coach Dan Campbell as they whipped the Tennessee Titans, 38-10, on the road at the Nissan Stadium last Sunday, via Yahoo Sports. Be sure not to drop any player of substantial value, though to hold onto the aforementioned defenses. If Albert can win this matchup, it will go a long way toward the Dolphins establishing the run. As you can see, their coach got them fired up to play, and they responded. Their main weakness on offense is running the ball, but that might change as Arian Foster works himself back into shape. You don’t need to be a football savant to know that running backs need to get in a rhythm to be productive, but you can’t do that if you are virtually shut down for all intents and purposes midway through the third quarter. Brian Hoyer has thrown for seven touchdowns in his last three games, including three against Jacksonville.
While it would make sense to pin Brent Grimes on Hopkins, Hopkins’ size might make that a challenge.
Yet it’s doubtful that the addition of Saunders has suddenly turned on the ground attack. Miami will attempt to shut down a subpar passing game. In fact, in the National Football League, it’s more about the X’s and O’s, if anything. The Texans have a solid offensive line. So expect the Texans to do a similar thing when the final injury report is released on Friday. The passing game has a few things to clean up, as last week a ball bounded off a receiver’s hand for an interception and there was a miscommunication where a receiver continued a route when quarterback Ryan Tannehill expected him to sit down in a zone. Outside of Hopkins, this isn’t a good unit, and that will show. This will be the first time since the season began that the Dolphins will be playing without a defensive starter.
