Microsoft set to open its flagship retail store on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue
In the making for more than six years, the five-floor, 22,369 square-foot store features an assortment of best-in-class products and in-store services familiar at the company’s more than 110 retail locations, while offering new interactive experiences to allow customers to get hands-on with products in an immersive way.
There is no more iconic street than New York’s Fifth Avenue – okay, maybe there are a few rivals such as the Champs Elysee – but the Big Apple’s street has its claim to fame.
“One of our goals, since we started the stores in 2009, was to have a real marquee location where we could bring an expanded retail presence”, explained Kelly Soligon, general manager, Worldwide Marketing, Microsoft Retail and Online Stores.
Day-one customers can take advantage of great deals on Surface devices and low prices on Xbox One and accessories. The outlet will replace its Fendi store at 677 Fifth Avenue, and is located just along from Apple’s famous cube store on the same street.
The New York City flagship store will have on hand Surface Book laptops, Surface Pro 4 tablets, the new Lumia 950 and 950XL Windows Phones and Microsoft Band 2 devices. Microsoft has emphasized video displays, placing 198 LCD monitors throughout three floors and a 30-foot, two-story video tower with 36 monitors acting as the store’s centerpiece.
“We know customers will be on Fifth Avenue, we know it’s going to be a global destination for people”, says Porter.
There will be more than 160 employees who collectively speak more than 19 languages including Spanish, Hindi, Mandarin Chinese, Italian, Russian and American Sign Language.
“In addition to our grand opening ceremony, we will celebrate the Flagship Store with Microsoft fans and the local community by hosting a special Pitbull performance on October 26 at Rockefeller Center, South Plaza!”
