Michael J. Fox Scrutinizes Marty McFly Action Figure
Marty (Michael J. Fox) wondered, reasonably.
As evidenced on October 21, Back to the Future Day – honoring the date that Marty and Doc Brown traveled to in the second movie – the popularity of the franchise remains strong. So, if you want a pair, you’ll be bidding against all the other Back to the Future fans of the world – good luck!
“The future. I’ve got to check this out, Doc”, Marty McFly said in the 1989 hit “Back to the Future Part II”. Fans dressed as characters from the beloved sci-fi film series and participated in hoverboard and DeLorean rides.
Nike intends to release the sneakers, which are equipped with “power laces” that tighten on their own when feet are placed inside, commercially next year.
Micheal J Fox tries on Nike’s self lacing shoes on Back To The Future Day.
In addition to the actual shoes, Nike MAG designer Tinker Hatfield actually sent Fox a handwritten note complete with a sketch of McFly holding a pair of Nike MAGs.
Nike president and chief executive Mark Parker said: ‘We started creating something for fiction and we turned it into fact, inventing a new technology that will benefit all athletes’.
As that happened, on the list of things we still didn’t have, which included the hoverboard and flying cars, was the self-lacing Nike Mag shoe. But they were largely for show and did not sport automatic laces.
This isn’t just another Back to the Future Day corporate cash-in: a limited run of Nike Air Mags will be auctioned off next spring in aid of the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
It appears that Nike is trying to capitalize on the sale of these Air Mag II’s by also putting them up for auction.
