Fugitive don Chota Rajan arrested in Bali
“Bali Police arrested Chhota Rajan yesterday at CBI’s request made through Interpol”, Express quoted CBI Director Anil Sinha as saying.
“The Bali police has arrested an Indian national, Mohan Kumar, alias Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje alias Chhota Rajan”.
Gangster Chota Rajan who was in the run since 1995, has finally been arrested in Bali, Indonesia.
According to the information available Rajan had arrived at Bali from Sydney.
Suspected of masterminding the killing of 15-20 people in India, he was handed over to the Bali Police for further proceedings, the report said. “Post-verification, investigation will be taken forward”, he told media persons in New Delhi.
The 55-year-old Nikalje, an alleged crime boss in India, had been on the run for two decades, Wiyanto said on Monday, with Interpol flagging him as a wanted man back in 1995.
However, the official from Denpasar said that they had arrested Kumar based on a red corner notice from Interpol. “And even if he is deported here, he has become very old, sick and nearly non-operative with his gang”, Singh told PTI.
The pair went separate ways in 1996 and in 1988 Nikalje is said to have fled to Dubai, where he allegedly continued to operate and pull the strings of his crime syndicate.
He reportedly now suffers diabetes and requires kidney dialysis.
“Mohan Kumar alias Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje alias Chota Rajan is a fugitive and CBI has been pursuing the matter with the Australian authorities”, CBI Spokesperson Devpreet Singh said.
