Movie Fans Celebrate “Back to the Future Day”
Just in time for Back to the Future Day, Nike’s self-lacing shoes are officially here.
Here’s Michael J. Fox trying out the only Self-Lacing Nike MAG in existence.
Fox, aka Marty McFly, arrives in the future – the real future – on Jimmy Kimmel.
Film lovers across the world are celebrating the day which Marty McFly and Doc Brown gate-crashed in their flying DeLorean in the second Back to the Future film.
The auction raised more than $9.4 million to support their efforts to help speed a cure for Parkinson’s and drew critical awareness to the importance of Parkinson’s research.
Nike previously announced shoes with lights based on the iconic brogues, and fans worldwide were disappointed that the exact replicas could not lace themselves.
For those who wish to live the future as seen in Back to the Future Part II, USA Today released a special edition of its newspaper as seen in that film.
Fox, for his part, received the Mag sneakers with a letter that he promptly posted on his Twitter account.
“I think it’s such a great movie and even 30 years later, they remember it. They love it”, said Matt Harris of Berwick. Last night, that changed when Jimmy Kimmel welcomed out Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd in full character during his show in New York City.
“We started creating something for fiction and we turned it into fact, inventing a new technology that will benefit all athletes”, CEO Mark Parker said about the shoes (quoted by Engadget).
Nike hasn’t said whether it plans to mass-produce the shoes, but maybe it’s too busy making our other dreams come true?
The company filed a patent for the power-lacing version back in 2009.
