Timothy Peters wins Truck Series race at Talladega
Hollywood stuntman and NASCAR Xfinity Series racing veteran Stanton Barrett plans to make his NASCAR Camping Series debut Saturday in the Fred’s 250 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.
Gordon applauded the move, which was used in Saturday’s Truck Series race when there was just one attempt to finish the event and it ended under caution. “It really was no different with one (green-white-checkered flag) attempt versus three. We’ll be fine”, Truex said of the spring race in which he started 36th but finished fifth.
“We had a shot to win it, so there’s nothing to be ashamed of”, Jones said.
Jones finished second and was followed by Mason Mingus, Erik Jones and Tyler Reddick.
“From the time we unloaded, our truck was fast. But when you’re getting close to the checkered flag, you’re on your own”, said Peters, who began the race from the pole position. Another win Sunday could clinch his second world title in two years and third overall.
Peters made his pass thanks in part to a strong push from Spencer Gallagher, who is Jones’ teammate at Gallagher Motorsports.
“I think at that point all bets are off – teammates or not”. “You go after what you can”, he said.
“I don’t know what happened to him”.
Allgaier’s auto suffered enough damage that his crew had to make quick repairs to get him on track for his qualifying attempt, but will need to work on the Chevrolet a few more to get it fixed to race Sunday. At the time of the crash, NASCAR officials penalized Christopher Bell for pushing the leader at the time, Brandon Jones, who wasn’t penalized and restarted in the lead.
NASCAR elected not to penalize Jones as well and he maintained the lead following a 10-truck wreck that sent the race into overtime.
“We were on point today”, Jones said. Clearly the class of the field at this stage, Crafton was able to stay out in front for all but four of the next 43 laps, the exception occurring during the next round of pit stops under caution for Terry Jones hitting the inside wall off turn 4 on lap 37 when Crafton was beaten off pit road by Peters only to quickly recover the lead again once the race went back to green once more. Crafton’s miserable day finished with a 24th place finish meaning he drops to third place in the championship battle and is now 23 points away from the leader.
“It was just exiting there at the finish”.
