New Apple TV Release Date Arrives with Online Orders
The new Apple TV is officially available to order from Apple’s website, as promised by CEO Tim Cook. The 32 GB Apple TV is $149, while the larger 64 GB version is $199.
It’s also the first version of the TV box to ship with yvOS, which finally brings the App Store to the big screen. Companies like HBO, ESPN and the Major League Baseball are all on board to make their own apps for the device, turning it into a true developer platform.
As for playing the games, the new Apple TV remote supports physical gestures, so you can swing and move the remote like you can the controller on the Nintendo Wii. But you’ll also be able to play games directly from the set-top box, and we’re not sure what these will look like yet. This isn’t too surprising, since many products don’t come with an HDMI cable in the first place, but it’s certainly something that should be commonplace with products that use HDMI, especially if that’s the only way to connect it to your television.
In case users want to buy added accessories with the Apple TV 4, they can buy extra Siri Remotes for $79 each, while the remote’s loop strap, similar to that of the Nintendo Wii, will be available for a $12.99 extra charge. It’s certainly a lower barrier-to-entry with this old model. Both models are expected to be delivered as early at October 30. It also supports the new Apple Music streaming service and the AirPlay protocol to wirelessly stream content from your iOS device or Mac. Of course, these dates could change of inventory changes drastically, so keep that in mind if you’re thinking about waiting to buy the new Apple TV.
