Schumer Squad: Comedian and Senator Aiming for Gun Legislation
After a gunman opened fire this past July during a screening of Trainwreck, claiming three lives (including his own) and injuring others, Schumer teamed up with her cousin, Senator Chuck Schumer, to propose new gun legislation.

They appeared on the stairs of of New York City Hall to call for legislation to expand background checks before the purchase of the guns, reported Variety. Schumer introducing specific policy initiatives for stronger background checks, and a proposal to prevent violent criminals, abusers and those with severe mental illnesses from purchasing firearms, reports Time. According to Senator Schumer, 85 percent of guns used in a crime in New York come from out of state. The two pressed the public to write, call and use Twitter and Facebook to help halt the nation’s rate of gun violence.
They say that could create a groundswell forcing a vote early next year.
In August the stand-up comedian and her politico cousin first announced their partnership in which she explained why it’s so important to have gun control laws put in place.
