Roger Moore: James Bond Can’t Be Gay Or Woman
His list of achievements, from 60 odd years in the business, is long indeed – James Bond, The Saint… anything but Bullseye – and Moore’s great poise and presence allowed him to recount his long story with modesty and comic timing.
Moore recently sparked controversy when he said that a black actor like Idris Elba would not be “English-English” enough to play Bond. But they wouldn’t be Bond for the simple reason that wasn’t what Ian Fleming wrote.’ told The Daily Mail.
Writing in his book, Bond on Bond, Sir Roger Moore recounts the time Judi was crossing the road on her way to rehearsals in London when she became distracted and was almost hit by a taxi.
Moore, who played the iconic Bond in seven films, insists that, despite what people might think about his opinion, he is not being discriminatory.
“It is not about being homophobic or, for that matter, racist – it is simply about being true to the character”, he said.
“Plus, when you’re shooting, there’s all the crew and electricians on the rails above you going: ‘Go on, give her one Roger!'” “I suppose you could just about get away with a villain from Burkina Faso, but that’s about it”, he said.
He came under fire earlier this year when he was quoted saying black actor Idris Elba was not “English-English” to play the role. He later claimed that his comments were lost in translation.
Tell us, do you think political correctness has gone too far and should leave the Bond films alone? And who’s your favourite Bond of all time?
