OSCE MG co-chairs to visit region today
Ambassadors Igor Popov, James Warlick, Pierre Andrieu and Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk, Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office.
The co-chairs were briefed on the constitutional referendum in Armenia scheduled for December 6.
An Indonesian official has urged for resolution of the long-standing Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. The presidential meeting, therefore, is likely to follow it.
The situation on the contact line between Azerbaijan and Armenia has remained tense as the Armenian Armed Forces shattered ceasefire a total of 95 times throughout the day, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry said.
“Armenia and Azerbaijan, whether aggressor or in retaliation, should reject the use of the weapons”, Warlick said.
The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs who have arrived in Armenia are expected to meet with Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan and foreign minister Edward Nalbandian to discuss the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement process.
A truce was brokered by Russian Federation in 1994, although no permanent peace agreement has been signed.
