Eubank Jr makes light work of veteran Jeter
He said: “I wouldn’t be putting him in fights if I didn’t believe he could rise to the occasion, I’m giving him the opportunity in my view to actually wreak havoc on boxing and really open the game up to a new audience”.
Following the bout, promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed the WBA had made Eubank Jr’s next bout against Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan on December 12 the final eliminator to face the victor of Peter Quillin-Daniel Jacobs.
Eubank (19-1, 14 KOs), 26, of England, was moved into the main event when Sheffield’s Kell Brook suffered an injury and his welterweight title defense against Diego Chaves was postponed.
“English”, wasn’t beyond again chiming in with the lofty “Golovkin” boasts, promising that while December’s fight with O’Sullivan will be a “barn-stormer”, it’s merely a stepping stone towards an eventual showdown with the Kazakh. “I’m definitely interested in sharing the ring with these types of fighters within the next year or two”.
“Power isn’t enough to beat me”.
Eubank Jr. needs to stay busy and have that consistency in order to continue his development, as aside from Saunders, his level of opposition has been criticized. Golovkin has got weaknesses that I feel I can exploit, so the goal is to work towards that fight.
Further adjustments are happening behind the scenes with Adam Booth joining Eubank’s training set up alongside Ronnie Davies – and although Eubank says that the full impact of Booth won’t be felt until his fights down the line, he intends to put Jeter to the sword on Saturday. That’s the fight the public want to see this year. People have mentioned George Groves and Martin Murray.
“I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for my fans so if that’s what they want and we can get, that’s what we’re going to do”.
