Michael J Fox finally gets THOSE Nikes

While Lyft is offering free DeLorean rides throughout New York City on 21 October 2015, Nike has announced it is collaborating with the Michael J Fox foundation to release limited-edition, power-lace Nike Mags next spring.

Nike released its first pair of 2015 Nike Mags to Fox on Monday, the first shoe of its kind.

While Back to the Future gave the design a few retro-future chic, there are real, practical applications for self-lacing kicks.

Donald Ortiz is a Hollywood costume designer who made his own outfit including replicas of the famous Nike self tying shoes.

Nike sent Back to the Future fans into a frenzy online after tweeting “See you tomorrow” to Michael J. Fox on October 20th – the day before “Back To The Future Day”.

In the letter Tinker writes: “As the first most celebrated wearer of the Nike Air Mag, we wanted you to be first to receive a ‘living pair”. As you’ll recall, Fox’s Marty travels back to 1955 to make sure his parents fall in love, but instead, Lorraine ends up falling for him, and kissing him at the Enchantment Under the Seas dance.

Nike president and CEO Mark Parker said in a statement, “We started creating something for fiction and we turned it into fact”.

On arrival in the future, McFly is awed by a pair of Nike trainers – with laces that tie themselves.

Nike hasn’t said whether it plans to mass-produce the shoes, but maybe it’s too busy making our other dreams come true? But they were largely for show and did not sport automatic laces.
