Ex-NFL star Eddie George to slip into ‘Chicago’ on Broadway
Eddie George has won the Heisman Trophy, made four Pro Bowls, played in a Super Bowl and graced the cover of EA Sports’ Madden 2001 video game. The show will be running for seven weeks at the Ambassador Theatre in Midtown Manhattan. He’s starred in a few smaller plays in Nashville the past few years.
Eddie George will become the latest name to step into the role of Billy Flynn in the Tony-winning hit musical Chicago, when the National Football League legend and Heisman Trophy victor makes his Broadway debut beginning January 11, 2016.
Eddie George fell into acting after his nine-year career in the National Football League, in which he played for the Tennessee Titans and the Dallas Cowboys.
The Ambassador Theatre is located at 219 W. 49th Street. Stumpfl lists God’s Trombones, Othello, Julius Caesar and The Whipping Man as a few of George’s previous works. Since the conclusion of his playing career, George has additionally received his MBA from Northwestern University and founded Edward George Wealth Management Group. He is also on the board of the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville. Bravo’s “Real Housewives of Atlanta” alum NeNe leakes will join the cast November. 23, taking on the role of Matron “Mama” Morton (through December 20). The current revival, directed by Walter Bobbie, is now in its 19th year on Broadway.
Set in the 1920s, “Chicago” is a scathing satire of how show business and the media make celebrities out of criminals. Regular box office hours are 10 am to 8 pm Monday through Saturday, and Noon to 7:00 pm Sunday.
