Fire Breaks Out At Crawford Market In Mumbai
Firefighters douse flames after a massive fire broke out at Mumbai’s Crawford market on Sunday. While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, the fire officials confirmed that most of the shops destroyed sold cosmetics. On receipt of information, around 18 fire engines were rushed to the spot. The reason of the fire will be known after investigation. The fire, which occurred in the central region of the huge market, also destroyed huge stocks of packaging material stored on the premises.
A major fire broke out in South Mumbai’s busy Crawford market in the wee hours today, gutting over 60 shops. “Had the fire department taken our call seriously and swung into action immediately, the loss could have been minimized”. The fire brigade were called in after locals noticed the flames in the cramped market. But, if there is a need to upgrade the system, then I would discuss it with the Municipal Commissioner.
Meanwhile, NCP slammed the civic body controlled by Shiv Sena-BJP, saying it was not prepared to deal with such situations.
“We are already working on restoring the entire market”, additional municipal commissioner Sanjay Deshmukh said.
