Federal Bureau of Investigation to help investigate fatal police shooting of Florida man
Crump says there was no way for Jones to know Raja was an officer and that Jones did not fire his gun. Raja claims that he shot Jones because he confronted him with a gun. PBSO, which investigates officer-inolved shootings for Palm Beach Gardens, has asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation to assist.
His father, Clinton Jones Sr, barely unable to speak with emotion, stammered, “I need to know why my son is gone today”. Being able to get a chance to see them is special, so I’m just grateful that I’m able to see them because who knows?
A group of mostly black Palm Beach County lawyers said, however, that any findings in the Jones case by the sheriff’s office would be tainted by its handling of past cases. We wanted, whatever the result is, we want it to come from someone that the community could feel that the source is fair and impartial.
Jones, 31, was shot at about 3 a.m. Sunday morning after pulling his silver Hyundai to the side of the highway near PGA Boulevard.
“Corey never saw a badge”, said attorney Daryl Parks, another attorney representing the Jones family. Jones said he wanted to get the auto fixed so it would be ready to take him to choir practice the next day, Crump said.
Wright said the callers were very concerned.
While Thursday’s meeting with the state attorney’s office provided a few details, many more answers still are needed, according to Crump.
“It just makes no sense”, Crump said.
“There are so many questions, lots of holes”.
West Palm Beach Police’s Community Response Team will be at the event to help with traffic or parking issues, said Sgt. Dave LeFont.
“It’s conceivable that the individual in this case would not have recognized this person as a police officer, and might have assumed that he was under attack by somebody”, he said. “You have a split second to react”, he said.
Wilfork noted that he has the utmost respect for law enforcement and noted that he has friends who are police officers.
“We need answers”, said Jones Jr., a former National Football League player. “My brother was all for protection”, she said. He was arrested after the officer noticed a handgun in his auto and, at that time, did not have a concealed weapons permit.
“We’re dealing with somebody that was shot dead”, he continued.

Jones was a 31-year-old black man who grew up in the church. One of Jones’ practice drum kits was set up on the stage.

His message to police locally and internationally was to rid themselves of “bad apples”.
