Neighbor arrested in Maine native’s death
Three days after an Oakland Park woman was murdered inside her home, detectives have arrested her next door neighbor.
“I went in and said, ‘Charlotte, Charlotte, ‘ and I didn’t hear anything, and I walked toward her kitchen because she was doing a few dishes there earlier and her body was there on the kitchen floor”, Kincy said the day she reported the stabbing, according to an arrest report.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating the slaying, Nicholas “was stabbed multiple times on her torso, neck and head” and that multiple weapons were used.
Before Debra Kincy dialed 911 to report her neighbor’s murder, police said she was in a pawn shop selling three of the victim’s rings – wearing clothing soaked in the woman’s blood.
“But I called them as soon as I found her in the kitchen, and I couldn’t get any response out of her”, said Kincy.
Police say before Kincy called 911 she was seen on surveillance video pawning the victim’s jewelry while wearing a shirt stained with blood.
Kincy is reportedly facing several charges, including murder and dealing in stolen property.
In the day after her neighbor’s murder, Kincy gave an interview to NBC 6.
The pawn shop clerk also remembered Kincy as “shaking heavily” as she filled out paperwork.
Investigators noted, though, that in a story the newspaper posted online at 2:05 the day after the murder, Kincy said she thought her friend had been stabbed. That detail was privy only to the killer, police said.
‘No information relating to how the victim was killed was ever released to the public, including Debra Kincy, ‘ the paper quoted a legal affidavit as saying. Nicholas’ family members in Augusta said she was a fun-loving person who liked to climb mountains.
Detectives say evidence shows Kincy had been harassing Nicholas for more than a week about jewelry she may have stolen.
“It is so traumatic to think of that being done to her”, she said.
Marleen Schiessi of Maine, a friend of the victim’s, told WSVN by phone she was stunned by the the crime.
