Whole Foods Recalling Chicken Salad, Pasta Salad After Positive Listeria Test
A Whole Foods Market establishment in Everett, Massachusetts is recalling approximately 234 pounds of curry chicken salad products that may be adulterated with listeria monocytogenes, which causes a severe and life-threatening infection.
A sampling of the products tested positive for Listeria Monocytogenes during a routine inspection of Whole Foods Market’s North Atlantic Kitchen facility.
Listeriosis is characterize by headache, fever, stiff neck, muscle aches, confusion, convulsion and loss of confusion and is sometimes preceded by gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced on Saturday that the potentially risky curry chicken and deli pasta are sold pre-packaged as well as in in salad bars, in store’s chef’s cases, and in sandwiches and wraps prepared at the stores.

The USDA reports there have been no confirmed sicknesses due to the outbreak. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the liseria bacterium is expected to cause serious and fatal infections in kids, children, pregnant women and infants.
At the same time, pregnant women are at high risk of miscarriage or stillbirth due to Listeria infection.
Customers should get rid of these products and carry their receipts to a Whole Foods Market to get a full refund.
The items that are affected by the recall are sold in stores in different states such as Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island. Consumers should seek immediate medical care if they develop these symptoms. The affected products were sold in stores between Oct. 18 and Oct. 25 and have a sell by date of Oct. 23.
