InFocus’ Kangaroo is a phone-sized Windows 10 desktop PC
This is Kangaroo. It’s only slightly bigger than your average computer mouse, and yet inside that tiny box is a Windows 10 PC that boasts 4K streaming and has a fingerprint sensor for added security.
Desktop PC sales are falling for past many years. Thanks to the company’s free OS Link software for iOS, the Kangaroo can connect to an iPad as well in either desktop mode or in tablet mode. Inside, there’s also 32 GB of storage and an internal battery that lasts up to four hours, according to InFocus. The battery could come in handy because unlike other stick PCs, the Kangaroo doesn’t plug directly into monitors – the companion dock has a USB 2.0 port, a USB 3.0 port, and an HDMI port for use in connecting to monitors.
“We wanted to create something that is incredibly affordable, portable and allows you to access Windows 10 and all of your files – from work to media – on any device”, continued Yen. Each device is used in different locations for different purposes. “Kangaroo is the first product to allow you to use the same PC for all applications, in any environment”.
Kangaroo also features 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM, 32GB of eMMC storage expandable via microSD, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0, fingerprint reader, and a micro USB port for charging the device. Kangaroo also provides remote access via a hardware Action Switch even without Wi-Fi. That’s a major boon for road warriors. Kangaroo comes with only two cables, an HDMI cable to connect to a display and the power cord.
We caught up with Roger Kay, principal analyst at Endpoint Technologies Associates, to get his take on Kangaroo.
Capable of fitting in your pocket, Kangaroo isn’t going to running Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate any time soon, but what it can do is become a fully-portable computer that’ll plug into pretty much any screen around you. With that, he’s not quite sure how popular it will be because people are less do-it-yourself these days – they just want to buy something that works.
Inside the Kangaroo is an Intel Atom x5-Z8500 System-on-Chip (SoC) based on Cherry Trail.
