Man Fatally Shoots Mother, Himself at New Jersey Nursing Home
Police were called to the Voorhees Center, a Genesis HealthCare nursing home care facility in Voorhees, New Jersey, around 5:45pm Sunday.
The facility is on the 3000 block of Evesham Road.
The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said 62-year-old George Buller III was visiting his 85-year-old mother, Andree Buller.
Reports the nydailynews: The two were eating dinner together at about 4:30 p.m. before the fatal shooting, cops said.
One official said Mr. Buller walked back to his auto just prior to the shooting. He later returned to the room and shot his mother before turning the gun on himself, cops said.
Police weren’t sure how Buller got the gun in the facility, and didn’t know the motive for the killing.
Nobody else was hurt.
Voorhees Township Police Deputy Chief Bill Donnelly told NBC no one heard any yelling or argument moments before the shooting. When she reached the room, she witnessed the man shoot himself.
Police were on the scene as family and friends of residents and staff arrived to check on their loved ones.
The facility provides both short- and long-term care, severe Alzheimer’s care and hospice. It operates more than 500 centers in the country.
A nursing at the facility rushed to the room after hearing the first gunshot.
Police say the employees sprang into action, clearing people from that wing of the center and calming the other residents, working well under pressure.
