RSS chief Bhagwat praises Modi govt, says there is ‘hope’ now

Every year, the RSS chief speaks on the occasion of Vijayadashmi.

Without taking names or quoting any recent incidents, he said, “Inclusivity is the core of our culture, we stand for unity in diversity. This is Hindutva”, he said.

Bhagwat praised the Modi Government’s performance on the global stage.

Mr Bhagwat also said such a population policy can not be enforced by the Governments or laws, all alone.

The media expectation that Bhagwat could make a few references to his controversial comments about the reservation policy or the episodes regarding the mob lynching of a 50-year-old man in Dadri over beef eating was belied.

“Small episodes happen. They get exaggerated and presented in a big way…” Small incidents keep happening but it does not distort Indian culture, Hindu culture.

Bhagwat accepted that unity in diversity had benefited India but linked it to Hindutva, claiming “it is our eternal culture, Hindu culture, that accepts and respects all forms of diversity”.

The Himachal Unit of Congress Party on Thursday strongly criticized the Union government for using state broadcaster Doordarshan to air RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s address, saying it as the blatant misuse of the official machinery.

“We need to rise above vote-bank politics to formulate a holistic approach, equally applicable to all citizens, towards the population policy”. “With rise in population, the burden on the country will grow”.

He called for a debate on population growth, wondering if current systems and resources would be adequate to provide employment and basic amenities to people after 50 years.

He said that people in government must get “credible data, both qualitative and quantitative, from the grassroots level to measure the efficacy of our developmental policies. Why should we ape the West when our ideologies are time-tested”, he said.

This departure from the West is a key objective of the RSS which completes 90 years of its existence, and the chief expressed distinct pride in this achievement. Keeping in the mind the minority votebank, BJP tied up with mahadalit leader Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM. A new idea of India is rising in the world. “On the basis of eternal values, social changes are to be made”, he said.

“Considerable efforts are required to tune society’s psyche to the same”.
