National Football League legend Eddie George joins Chicago as Billy Flynn
When football legend “Broadway” Joe Namath actually worked on Broadway as a replacement cast member in the 1983 revival of THE CAINE MUTINY COURT-MARTIAL, his previous stage experience was limited having starred in regional productions of musicals like DAMN YANKEES and LI’L ABNER. George has received increasingly strong notices for his stage work, capped by raves for his commanding lead in Nashville Rep’s The Whipping Man earlier this year.
Two years later he returned to tackle the role of OTHELLO.
Indeed former Ohio State great Eddie George is exploring uncharted territory and will make his Broadway debut in January, starring as Billy Flynn in Chicago. He was a college football analyst for Fox and Fox Sports 1, but he’s been preparing for a totally different career outside of the sport.
Former Tennessee Titans running back Eddie George played in New York just four times during the course of his career (twice each against the Jets and Giants). He is scheduled to perform in “Chicago” as lawyer Billy Flynn. The musical opened on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in November 1996 where it remained through February 1997.
Chicago won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 as well as awards for actors Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton, director Walter Bobbie, lighting designer Ken Billington and choreographer Ann Reinking. Regular box office hours are 10 am to 8 pm Monday through Saturday, and Noon to 7:00 pm Sunday.
